Brown newspaper wrappers
20:30 |A couple of months ago if I'm not mistaken I received some brown newspaper wrappers from Wholeport for me to play with. You can view the wrappers at the link HERE. I just love the pattern so much. I've been so busy with work, I didn't have time to experiment much these days. Don't get to make cards that much either. I miss experimenting with my craft materials.
I managed to get some free time yesterday to play with the wrappers and see what I can come up with. As you can see....not much! LOL! I thought of making bookmarks for guys using the wrappers but one thing led to another and in the end, it became a decoration for a card instead hehehehe!
I was also playing with my new die-cut patterns. I love the oval shape label a lot. Been wanting to get one for a while now. It's super that I got them now. I used to cut them up myself but of course it's much easier to cut using the machine and it will always cut them up beautifully with many different sizes. The die-cut frills are nice too! A bit difficult to glue on the paper though because the shape is a bit difficult to handle but once I managed to find the right glue for it, it's great to play with.
Stitching the paper really did bring back lots of good old memories of sewing. I miss sewing a lot. It was nice to hold the needle again honestly. Love the effects it gives to the paper as well. Making those quilled roses using the wrappers were fun too.
Distressing the paper with the distress ink was fun as well. I'm not good at doing it as I don't get to play with it that often. Not an expert in doing this at all. But I guess I'm getting better at it now that I was the first time I tried it. I don't have the blending tool yet. Just playing around with the makeup sponge is good enough for me right now. As long as I'm happy with the results, that's ok by me! ehehe!
Cherry blossom tri shutter card

I was playing around with one of the the free origami paper I received from Wholeport the other day and I thought of cutting them up this way using the die cut machine and pasting them all over the tri shutter card. I've never done something like this before and I find it quite amusing :D.
I wanted the tri shutter card to look like as if the card itself was originally with patterns even though it was not.....it's just a plain white cardstock. But now it is heavily embellished with pattern paper all over it. It looks a bit messy with the pattern paper all over it, which is not usually my style but I still gave it a try to see how it would look like in the end.
The yellowish scallop circles are for writing on personal wishes. I purposely made them in different sizes hehe.....so the personal wishes can be written in different sections of the card. :)

The pop up hearts I pasted at two different sections in the card is something I am excited about. I've never done it this way before.....usually I only make the heart pop in one section. It's new for me and I'm getting a few more ideas for new tri shutter cards to be done in a similar way.
Another thing I love about this design is the tiny cherry blossoms! I love embossing them this way and arranging them this way. It's simple and yet so cute because of their small size! hehe! I love making them! They suit the pattern paper a lot ;) You can view how the tri shutter card opens up and pops the hearts inside it at the video I prepared below....do check it out :).
Red and black

My first order of the tri-shutter card :). Very nerve wrecking actually. Things got even more worse when I was asked to add photos inside the card and I'm just not good at making the photos look good when printed. I'm still learning how to edit photos and the progress is pretty slow. But somehow I have to make it work and make my customer happy. And this is the end result. :)
For this card, I tried to make a patterned paper that would suit the colors I was going for such as red, dark red, black, white and silver. I stamped some black dotted swirls clear stamp on white paper and then decorated it with punched out red heart shapes. You can see it at the photo above. The dotted red on white paper is a patterned paper I got from someone. I thought it would be perfect for this card. The colors matched and so I didn't hesitate to use them.
Now I understand why my fellow card maker, Miss Azilah have had headaches before when making this tri-shutter cards......as I almost puked making this myself. It's just too much to think about really. Everything has to be balanced. It has to match up otherwise it would look weird. It took me a long time to figure out the design. Perhaps in time I'll be finding it easy to do but for now, it sure isn't huhuhehehaha :D.

Remember the paper I designed the other day? Well, I got carried away and designed some more after that and I used them for my second tri-shutter card! hehe! ;) This is what I call, making use of what you have and make the best of it. Coz sometimes that's what you gotta do when you don't have everything you want. You just make use of what's available and make it work! Just like what Tim Gun used to say on Project Runaway haha. :D.
Sorry the photos did not turn out as well as I wanted it......the true color of the card is the one at the bottom where you can see how the dark pink color turns out exactly the same like the real card. The photos at the top seems a little off with the colors probably because of the color of the table that reflected it's wood color onto the paper. I donno, I'm not a professional photographer and still have lots to learn about lighting effects etc.....but if you wanna know the true color of the paper, you look at the photo at the bottom ya.....that's the one that looks exactly the same.
I also added a little quilling here and there on the card and some heart shape paper I punched out with my heart shape craft punches. I hope to design more patterned paper for myself to use for my handmade cards. It's fun to play with the stamps. At least this way I'll get to use them more often.....they've been kept safe in the box for too long.....they need to go out and play! hehe! :D
